Are there benefits to doing shaman training even when one has another path in life, and doesn’t want to become a shaman?
When I underwent my shaman training I studied alongside many wonderful people, from full-time moms, a hairdresser, small business owners, writers, artists and retired professionals. This work is profoundly life changing and empowering. Out of all the students who took these years of training with me, only 1% went on to become a shamanic practitioner like me. For me, it is my calling, it is what I’m meant to do. For others, it deepened the quality of their lives and shifted them out of old patterns that bound them. It created openings and opportunities to live at a higher level and improved not only their lives, but also the lives of the people around them. For as we heal ourselves, we heal each other.
Native tradition says that when we heal, it affects 7 generations, three that have come before, and the three to follow. Shamanic training can be for people who are ready to change and go to the next level in their personal and professional lives, no matter what their career path. We can learn how to release and clear blocks from past injuries and trauma for ourselves and others. We may discover lost pieces to ourselves that have left during the course of our lives and bring them back. This is called soul retrieval.
Shaman training is an opportunity to connect and use help from spirit~ which has many names. Sometimes called being in the flow, working with great spirit, a higher power or the divine~ to name a few. Shaman training is not a religion, and can be studied by people with varying faiths or beliefs. Each student may develop their own mesa, or medicine bundle to help them on their life’s path. The benefits often include deep personal growth and training to help one’s self and others, if that is what the student is called to do.
Once a year or so, I offer shaman training. Currently this is in the Ithaca, NY area. Contact me if you feel called to do this training.
